FOREIGN POLICY

AMERICA SHOULD BE A BEACON OF FREEDOM, JUSTICE AND DEMOCRACY ON THE GLOBAL STAGE. In today’s ultra-connected world, our policies affect not only ourselves but everyone across the globe. As such, it is more crucial than ever that we actively maintain our status as a leader and ally of the free world.

TRADE AGREEMENTS

Free and fair international trade is crucial for the U.S. economy. It means more American jobs, higher wages, and a better standard of living. Thus, it is crucial that we rejoin the Trans-Pacific Partnership. This partnership, which would lower tariff rates on U.S. exports, would create huge gains of over $100 billion for our small businesses exporters and manufacturers, the Brookings Institute estimates.

Furthermore, the importance of United States participation in trade agreements goes beyond economic benefits. A withdrawal from TPP is symbolic of withdrawal from the global arena. The impacts of this, while not easily quantifiable, should not be underestimated. When we refuse to participate in important discussions and deals, we essentially surrender our power as a global leader and significantly harm our future ability to influence and work with other countries.

TERRORISM

Acts of terrorism are a disgusting form of violence and hatred that simply will not be tolerated. I promise to take any actions necessary to stop terrorists and protect our country. If Americans stand together and pool our resources with other nations, I have no doubt that we can effectively combat this heinous crime.

NORTH KOREA

North Korea’s threats are undoubtedly a serious issue that needs to be considered. However, the way the current administration has addressed North Korea, even if with good intentions, is only counterproductive.

North Korea has no reason to strike the U.S. unless they think we are an imminent threat to the regime. So while we should absolutely prepare our military, ensure that we can respond to a missile launch, and make perfectly clear to North Korea that any aggressive action on their part is suicide, it is not in our best interest to threaten a preemptive strike. Instead of escalating conflicts with empty threats and erratic policy, I will address North Korea with an even and firm stance.
