TAX REFORM
THE AMERICAN ECONOMY HAS BEEN SUPPRESSED FOR TOO LONG. High taxes on hard working families must come to an end. Congress needs to refocus its motives, take a step back, and create simplified legislation that will help Americans and revitalize the economy.
This will no doubt be an arduous and lengthy task; however, it imperative that we get it right. Tax legislation should not be an emotionally charged or partisan issue, but one that is centered around growing the economy and helping every American. I am determined to encourage productive debates over legislation, and I endeavor to rewrite a tax code that will work for you.
INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY TAXES
Wherever tax laws discourage investment or personal growth, they must be lowered. The very legislation that is meant to grow the economy cannot also be a disincentive for personal achievement. The proposed bill decreases the number of tax brackets from seven to four, a simple solution that will bring tax relief to every income level.
In order to support low- and middle-income families, I also believe we should keep certain deductions and make the child tax credit refundable against payroll taxes. I absolutely oppose legislation the promotes “class warfare” and separates the American people into winners and losers. Andrew Carnegie, the father of philanthropy, advocated for donations and the creation of programs that would "help the poor help themselves." Like Carnegie, I believe that charities, religious groups, and generous individuals are at the heart of ending poverty. Thus, I support tax deductible donations and promote tax cuts for charitable organizations and nonprofits.
CORPORATE TAXES
The United States has one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world. I simply cannot stand by and allow marxist regulations to continue. The federal government's overbearing presence hinders international trade and is a detriment to American businesses. I am in favor of lowering the corporate tax rate from 35% to 20% and increasing our competitiveness in the international arena. Also, I think it is time for the government to recognize the brave, hardworking individuals who open their own businesses. Small business owners should, and will, receive a tax break under my leadership.
THE PROPOSED TAX PLAN
The proposed tax plan is a promising first step towards reform. It would revitalize the economy while giving a tax break to every single income bracket. However, I refuse to involve myself in partisan acrobatics and meaningless legislation. I firmly believe that compromise is a crucial aspect of our government, and that is why I will always be willing to make compromises if they are in the best interest of the American people. I can promise that my support of the bill goes beyond party lines and reaches out to my constituents who are most in need of tax relief.
